Before Correlative	Morgan Lewis & Bockius’ 3500+ node international NetWare 4.11 network was overburdened with the firm’s growing dependence on Novell Directory Services, Z.E.N.works and DNS. Network performance would intermittently degrade or fail which was affecting the firm’s productivity. Due to NetWare 4.11’s dependence on IPX, WAN links were experiencing excessive broadcasting of SAP and RIP traffic.
How Correlative Helped	Correlative managed the firm’s NetWare 5.1 and Pure IP Migration Project. This project focused on migrating and consolidating the firm’s 120 NetWare 4.11 servers to NetWare 5.1, eDirectory and new Compaq server technology. First, every aspect of the firm’s NetWare, NDS, DNS, DHCP and Z.E.N.works components were reviewed and a plan was developed to either enhance or redesign each component. Second, the core NDS infrastructure was upgraded to eDirectory and DNS infrastructure migrated to dedicated/redundant DNS servers. Each office location was migrated to a pure NetWare 5.1 and IP environment. In all offices this included the migration of resources and data to new server technology. In the larger offices critical servers were consolidated.
The Benefits Realized	Morgan Lewis & Bockius now maintains near 100% system availability, much better system response times and a high level of fault tolerance. User satisfaction has increased significantly. The network infrastructure is now poised to support additional enabling technologies such as LDAP and directory synchronization between eDirectory, Active Directory and Lotus Notes. IPX has been eliminated between workstation and server communications. WAN performance has improved by using IP and eliminating IPX RIP and SAP broadcasts.
